XXXIX FMI CAMPIONATI INTERNAZIONALI D’ITALIA EICMA SERIES 2026
Buongiorno Presidente Copioli,
siamo al via della stagione 2026 e ripartiamo come per tutti gli anni, oramai un appuntamento fisso, con gli Internazionali d’Italia di Motocross, eventi importanti per tutto il mondo dell’MX che vedono al via i migliori riders internazionali e i team più importanti, cosa rappresentano queste gare per la FMI?
Buongiorno a tutti i lettori e a tutti coloro che hanno la passione per questa meravigliosa specialità. Gli Internazionali d’Italia di Motocross rappresentano per la Federazione un punto di partenza della stagione molto importante sia in termini sportivi e organizzativi che di visibilità. Riguardo al primo aspetto, questa serie è fondamentale per piloti e team per preparare la stagione mondiale e sta a noi proporre gare di alto livello: ciò è possibile grazie al lavoro del promoter, dei Moto Club e degli addetti ai lavori. L’organizzazione inizia mesi prima rispetto al via ufficiale ed è sempre stimolante trovare nuove soluzioni pensate per chi viene a correre. Dal punto di vista della visibilità mediatica, gli Internazionali mettono in evidenza tutto quello che facciamo per garantire un pre season di alta qualità inoltre i riscontri che abbiamo da piloti, team e media sono molto postivi.

We are at the start of the 2026 season and, as every year, we are kicking off with the “Internazionali d’Italia Motocross” important events for all MX world, featuring the best international riders and the most important teams. What do these races represent for the FMI?
Good morning to all readers and to all those who are passionate about this wonderful sport. The “Internazionali d’Italia Motocross” represent a very important starting point for the season for the Federation, both in terms of sport and organization and in terms of visibility. With regard to the first aspect, this series is fundamental for riders and teams to prepare for the world season, and it is up to us to offer high-level races: this is possible thanks to the work of the promoter, the Moto Clubs, and the professionals involved. The organization begins months before the official start, and it is always exciting to find new solutions designed for those who come to race. From a media visibility standpoint, the “Internazionali d’Italia” highlights everything we do to ensure a high-quality pre-season, and the feedback we receive from riders, teams, and the media is very positive.
L’Italia da sempre al centro del mondo nel motocross, grazie a team, piloti e manifestazioni come queste, la nostra Federazione sempre attivamente presente e impegnata nell’attività nazionale e non solo, lei come vede l’MX in questi anni sul panorama internazionale?
L’Italia è sicuramente un punto di riferimento in termini di passione e organizzazione. Ne abbiamo avuto la dimostrazione lampante ai tempi del Covid quando la MXGP si affidò a noi per correre diversi Gran Premi e il Motocross delle Nazioni del 2021 a Mantova. Negli anni successivi, e ancora oggi, siamo riusciti a confermare questo ruolo grazie ad un lavoro capillare che inizia dal territorio e si sviluppa a livello nazionale e internazionale. Il merito non è mai esclusivamente della FMI o di una sola parte, ma di un gioco di squadra che coinvolge tutti. Uno spirito che ci consente poi di essere presenti ai vertici di tutte le competizioni internazionali: dagli Europei, ai Mondiali Junior al Campionato del Mondo Motocross.
Italy has always been at the center of the motocross world, thanks to teams, riders, and events like these, and our Federation is always actively present and involved in national and international activities. How do you see MX on the international scene in recent years?
Italy is certainly a benchmark in terms of passion and organization. We saw clear evidence of this during Covid when MXGP entrusted us with running several Grand Prix races and the 2021 Motocross of Nations in Mantua. In the following years, and still today, we have managed to confirm this role thanks to widespread work that starts at a local level and develops nationally and internationally. The credit never goes exclusively to the FMI or to a single party, but to teamwork that involves everyone. This spirit allows us to be at the top of all international competitions: from the European Championships to the Junior World Championships to the Motocross World Championships.
La nostra nazione è sempre al vertice su tanti aspetti sportivi, come è la “salute” del fuoristrada e in particolare il motocross sul nostro territorio?
I risultati parlano a nostro favore. Dopo l’era Cairoli abbiamo continuato a vincere a livello internazionale e, soprattutto, abbiamo proseguito il nostro lavoro con i giovani. Oggi nel Mondiale gli italiani sono moltissimi: alcuni sono già affermati e in sella a moto ufficiali, altri sono molto promettenti. Ma, soprattutto, la loro età media è davvero bassa quindi il futuro a medio e lungo termine può essere roseo. Tutto ciò è frutto di un lavoro costante fatto con i Pata Talenti Azzurri FMI e non solo. La stessa situazione esiste in altre discipline come l’Enduro, il Trial e diverse specialità del fuoristrada. Il vivaio italiano è ricco e sono convinto che continuerà a dare i suoi frutti.
Our nation is always at the top in many sporting disciplines, but how healthy is off-road racing, and motocross in particular, in our country?
The results speak for themselves. After the Cairoli era, we continued to win at international level and, above all, we continued our work with young people. Today, there are many Italians in the World Championship: some are already established and riding official bikes, others are very promising. But, above all, their average age is really low, so the medium and long-term future looks bright. All this is the result of constant work done with the “Pata Talenti Azzurri FMI” and others. The same situation exists in other disciplines such as Enduro, Trial, and various off-road specialties. The Italian talent pool is rich, and I am convinced that it will continue to bear fruit.
Ci saranno delle novità in questi anni nel settore dell’MX?
Siamo sempre alla ricerca di nuove soluzioni che possano favorire la partecipazione ai campionati più competitivi così come a quelli amatoriali. L’Italiano Prestige si svolgerà su un giorno solo e ci sarà la grande novità della Night Race a Faenza l’11 luglio. Abbiamo inoltre rivisto il format di altre competizioni tricolore: l’Italiano Expert sarà contestuale al Prestige 125 e Femminile, in modo che l’Over 40 e Rider sia veramente un campionato amatoriale. All’interno degli Internazionali Supermarecross abbiamo introdotto un vero e proprio campionato dedicato alla classe 65 cc.
Infine ricordo che da due anni la finale dell’Italiano Junior è molto formativa perché si svolge sulla sabbia della Sardegna e che da tempo stiamo potenziando la parte tecnica dell’Under 23 con il contributo di Alessandro Lupino, Direttore Tecnico Motocross Junior.
Will there be any changes in the MX sector in the coming years?
We are always looking for new solutions that can encourage participation in both competitive and amateur championships. The Italian Prestige will take place on a single day and there will be the big news of the Night Race in Faenza on July 11. We have also revised the format of other Italian competitions: the Italian Expert will be held at the same time as the Prestige 125 and Women’s, so that the Over 40 and Rider will truly be an amateur championship. Within the “Internazionali Supermarecross”, we have introduced a dedicated championship for the 65cc class. Finally, I would like to point out that for two years now, the Italian Junior final has been very formative because it takes place on the sand of Sardinia, and that we have been strengthening the technical side of the Under 23 category for some time with the contribution of Alessandro Lupino, Technical Director of Motocross Junior.
Tante restrizioni sull’attività per nuove regole dettate sull’ambiente a livello europeo, di questi giorni alcune considerazioni che vedo nazioni storiche come il Belgio diminuire sempre di più gli impianti di MX, noi in Italia come stiamo procedendo?
Nel fuoristrada bisogna porre particolare attenzione alle normative ambientali e alla sostenibilità in generale. Sono aspetti su cui insistiamo sempre di più perché sono cruciali per il futuro del nostro sport. Con la Commissione Ambiente raccogliamo dati relativi alle emissioni in atmosfera, acustiche e sul suolo in occasione di gare e manifestazioni. Il motociclismo, al contrario di quanto si possa pensare, non restituisce riscontri negativi, anzi. Allo stesso tempo la FMI, come certificato da Sport e Salute è la federazione più attiva e concreta nell’ambito della sostenibilità, un primato che ci consente di presentarci alle istituzioni nazionali e locali con credibilità e affidabilità. Il tutto è possibile grazie al lavoro dei Moto Club, che capiscono quanto siano importanti questi argomenti e agiscono di conseguenza nei loro impianti e nelle loro attività.
There are many restrictions on activities due to new European environmental regulations. Recently, I have noticed that historic countries such as Belgium are increasingly reducing their MX facilities. How are we progressing in Italy?
In off-road racing, particular attention must be paid to environmental regulations and sustainability in general. These are aspects that we are increasingly insisting on because they are crucial for the future of our sport. Together with the Environment Commission, we collect data on atmospheric, acoustic, and soil emissions during races and events. Contrary to what one might think, motorcycling does not have a negative impact; quite the opposite, in fact. At the same time, the FMI, as certified by “Sport e Salute”, is the most active and concrete federation in the field of sustainability, a record that allows us to present ourselves to national and local institutions with credibility and reliability. All this is possible thanks to the work of the Moto Clubs, which understand how important these issues are and act accordingly in their facilities and activities.
Nel ringraziarla per il suo tempo, un’ultima considerazione sul 2026, dopo anche il grande risultato dell’EICMA ’25 che ha visto numeri incredibili e in crescita, che fanno pensare ad un motociclismo sempre in grande salute. Il Motocross rispecchia questo trend positivo?
In questa prima fase del 2026 i numeri stanno supportando le scelte fatte al termine dello scorso anno, quando abbiamo lanciato le Licenze Regionali e anticipato i tempi di riaffiliazione dei Moto Club. Oggi il tesseramento fa registrare un + 9% rispetto allo stesso periodo del 2025 e mi auguro che questo trend positivo prosegua. Difficile parlare, oggi, esclusivamente del Motocross perché la stagione a livello territoriale e nazionale deve ancora entrare nel vivo ma sicuramente possiamo essere ottimisti e fiduciosi.
In thanking you for your time, one last thought on 2026, after the great results of EICMA ’25, which saw incredible and growing numbers, suggesting that motorcycling is still in great health. Does Motocross reflect this positive trend?
In this early stage of 2026, the numbers are supporting the choices made at the end of last year, when we launched Regional Licenses and brought forward the re-affiliation of Moto Clubs. Today, membership is up 9% compared to the same period in 2025, and I hope this positive trend continues. It is difficult to talk exclusively about Motocross today because the season at the regional and national level has yet to get underway, but we can certainly be optimistic and confident.
