Buongiorno Massimo,
nella tua vita tante esperienze, mai fermo e sempre pronto a nuove avventure, ma questo 2026 è un po’ un ritorno, visto che in Yamaha sei già stato protagonista di grandi stagioni ai vertici con piloti di altissimo valore. Cosa ti ha fatto approdare nuovamente alla casa di Iwata?
Penso di avere ancora molto da poter dare al mondo del motocross e Loro mi stanno dando la possibilità di dimostrarlo dandomi fiducia con questo nuovo ruolo.

Good morning Massimo,
you have had many experiences in your life, never standing still and always ready for new adventures, but this 2026 is a bit of a return, given that you have already been a protagonist of great seasons at the top with top-class riders at Yamaha. What made you return to the Iwata manufacturer?
I think I still have a lot to give to the world of motocross, and they are giving me the chance to prove it by placing their trust in me with this new role.

Da sempre nel mondiale motocross, potremmo dire che hai visto l’evoluzione di questo sport negli ultimi decenni, come è la salute del motocross oggi?
Purtroppo è diventato molto costoso e se non hai grossi sponsor o grandi case alle spalle, è sempre più difficile riuscire a partecipare, ci sono sempre più gare, con molte trasferte lontane e per questo si vedono, a volte, pochissimi piloti al cancelletto ed è un peccato x questo sport.

Having always been involved in world motocross, we could say that you have seen the evolution of this sport over the last few decades. How is motocross doing today?
Unfortunately, it has become very expensive, and if you don’t have big sponsors or major manufacturers behind you, it is increasingly difficult to participate. There are more and more races, with many long trips, and for this reason, sometimes there are very few riders at the starting gate, which is a shame for this sport.

Massimo Castelli è sinonimo di vittorie di grandi campioni, dacci 3 nomi e perché ti senti più legato a loro?
1. Dave Strijbos, perché con Lui ho vinto il mio primo mondiale con Cagiva.
2. Donny Schmit, era il mio primo anno con Yamaha Rinaldi, era tutto nuovo e abbiamo vinto subito il mondiale.
3. Tim Gajser, con lui ho vinto ben 5 mondiali, l’ho praticamente visto crescere, era un ragazzino quando abbiamo cominciato a lavorare assieme. E’ una persona che prende molto sul serio il suo lavoro, si allena duro, riconosce il lavoro di chi gli sta attorno e ha rispetto delle cose e delle persone. E’ una bellissima persona dentro e fuori dalle piste, per me è come un secondo figlio.

Massimo Castelli is synonymous with the victories of great champions. Give us three names and tell us why you feel most connected to them.
1. Dave Strijbos, because I won my first world championship with Cagiva alongside him.
2. Donny Schmit, it was my first year with Yamaha Rinaldi, everything was new, and we won the world championship straight away.
3. Tim Gajser, I won five world championships with him. I practically watched him grow up; he was just a kid when we started working together. He is someone who takes his work very seriously, trains hard, recognizes the work of those around him, and respects things and people. He is a wonderful person both on and off the track. To me, he is like a second son.

Se un mondiale si vince diciamocelo, spesso è perché alle spalle c’è un gruppo di lavoro che trova le giuste motivazioni per dare sempre il 101%. Passione ma anche grande professionalità, dopo tanti anni cosa ti spinge a fare ancora così tanti week end fuori casa e riuscire a trovare le motivazioni per puntare a vincere? Quale è il segreto anche per chi sta a fianco di questi atleti?
La passione, il poter dare il mio contributo grazie alla mia esperienza, è bello quando vedi che hai contribuito ad ottenere nuovi traguardi.
E per i week end fuori casa…. beh, vivere le gare dal vivo, al fianco del pilota, del team, l’adrenalina delle gare…sono cose che non puoi vivere stando su un divano.

Let’s face it, when you win a world championship, it’s often because you have a team behind you that finds the right motivation to always give 101%. Passion but also great professionalism. After so many years, what drives you to still spend so many weekends away from home and find the motivation to aim for victory? What is the secret for those who support these athletes?
Passion, being able to contribute thanks to my experience. It’s great when you see that you’ve helped achieve new goals.
And as for weekends away from home… well, experiencing the races live, alongside the driver and the team, the adrenaline of the races… these are things you can’t experience sitting on a sofa.

Internazionali d’Italia 2026, come vedi queste gare di inizio stagione e perché sono importanti per le squadre come quella in cui sei quest’anno?
Sono gare molto importanti, perché si può vedere a che punto siamo con la moto e la preparazione del pilota

Internazionali d’Italia 2026, how do you view these early season races and why are they important for teams like the one you are with this year?
They are very important races because you can see where we are with the bike and the rider’s preparation.
